Brazil Chooses Brazil
- zgluck 3y agoSuch utter bullshit. Socialist hero Lula's Brazil doesn't support Ukraine, it supports China, which supports Russia. That's all there is to it.
- lisasays 3y agoHere's where the kool-aid starts to kick in: The fact is that, contrary to what the Estonian parliamentarian said, Brazil and other countries of the so-called Global South do not have to choose between any of the sides defined in this new diplomatic Manichaeism. But of course they do just that anyway. After both talking and triangulating out of its ass -- it's quite clear which side the PT is really on, as the sibling also points out.
- proc1on 3y agoYeah, I hear that all the time here. Usually from the people that dislike US/Europe and like China/Russia. I'm all in on pragmatism, but c'mon, let's be real here.
- matheusmoreira 3y agoWhat a joke. Brazil has already chosen to align itself with China and Russia. President went so far as to publicly victim blame Ukraine for the war with chinese at his side. Is it even possible for Brazil's alignment to be more obvious? Brazil chooses its own independent interests? What a bunch of bullshit. Its economy literally depends on exporting vast amounts of iron ore and soy to China. You'd think western countries would do something about that. These europeans seem to be under the impression Brazil is a democracy when in fact it's a Venezuela tier socialist judiciary dictatorship. Ex-president Bolsonaro will be literally banned from politics tomorrow for the unforgivable crime of questioning electronic voting. They want to censor radio stations that were friendly to him last year. How much more obvious can you get?
- lisasays 3y agoPeople seem to be under the impression Brazil is a democracy when in fact it's a Venezuela tier socialist judiciary dictatorship. You were doing pretty well up until this line (and the one after). Sure, the PT's talking points on this subject are pure cringe. But it's easy to see through pro-Bolsonaro apologetics like this as well.
- matheusmoreira 3y agoIf you think calling out the blatantly unconstitutional censorship perpetrated by the openly partidarian supreme court is "pro-Bolsonaro apologetics" then I'm not sure we should continue this discussion.
- lisasays 3y ago"Questioning electronic voting" is, objectively, a very distorted description of what the electoral court is accusing him of (rightly or wrongly). And it sure sounds like the stuff Bolsonaristas like to say (along with the Venezuela mention). Who are still upset, it seems, at not getting that military putsch they wanted. But hey, I don't really know your motives for saying weird stuff like this. And I could be entirely wrong.
- matheusmoreira 3y agoThey're not even accusing him of anything real. "Abuse of political power"? Are you for real. They accused Google of "abuse of market power" when the company posted its opinion of their proposed censorship laws on their own site. They deposed another politician because he "resigned in order to dodge an investigation" or whatever. Whatever sticks. It's easy to understand what they're doing, no reason to overanalyze it. It's obvious they want to destroy the guy and they don't really need a real legal justification for it. These aren't even real judges, they're more like puppets appointed by political connections. Why would anyone even take this circus seriously? I mentioned Venezuela because similar stuff happened in Venezuela. Lula is literally friends with all of these communist dictators. Not that long ago he literally welcomed Maduro, a guy on USA's shitlist, into our soil with military honors. It's not coincidence.
