It seems the UK is good at self inflicting damage. First the brexit, now this online safety bill. Brexit had half the population in support while the safety bill didn't garner much attention from the public (or I've missed them). The pattern seems to be using a generic solution to specific problems while the blast radius of the generic solution is asymmetrically larger than the intended specific problems.
- heavenlyblue 3y agoIt seems like online safety bill is such a low-hanging fruit compared to building affordable housing so they concentrate on "achievable" results, even if these results are not really that important at all. PS: I am against online safety bill.
- a_c 3y agoIMO UK has so much potential in being economically and technologically relevant. It is english speaking, got top universities, healthcare is decent when compared to the US (not saying it is without problems), capital abundant, birth rate among the heathiest in europe (12, after sweden and france 12.1, norway 12.2, iceland, iceland 13.6, ireland 13.8, and greenland 14.3) [1]. It pains me to see UK giving up on their potential [1] https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/birth-rate-by-country https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/birth-rat...
