I would've liked the author to expand here - is he talking about eukaryotes or prokaryotes? Taken literally, eukaryotes aren't the first life so he must be talking about prokaryotes. In that case I'd like to hear what specifically about them the author thinks is "very complex". Cell membranes? ATP synthase? Electron transport chains? Something else?
I'm trying to be generous with the author, but an alternative explanation is that he wanted to write about UFOs, skimmed for known arguments, saw "early life was very complex" and thought "that's gonna sound great in my blog".
