My wife sort of independently made up this term. She didn't complain or say anything really, she just quit and her colleagues threw her a party. Everyone knew it was because she got passed over. She didn't have to say a thing and her new job is better, more flexible, and higher paying. She joked the whole time she was "loud quitting."
Just like the article says, though, it was a breach of trust. They took her from a position she was happy in to groom her for a new role and then didn't give it to her and even went so far as to hire someone from out of town and their spouse.
Don't do that and then be SHOCKED when people quit.
