> On Tuesday the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) said it would start an expedited process to review NACS as a potential public standard.
> "The new SAE NACS connector standard will be developed on an expedited timeframe and is one of several key initiatives to strengthen the North American EV charging infrastructure," the engineers group said in a statement.
- ryzvonusef 3y agoAptera, Ford, GM, Rivian, and now Volvo have signed on to the NACS standard. Hyundai is rumored to be next. But The Biden Charging plan still requires CCS. NACS has the CCS software but not the physical connector. IF the SAE recommends the NACS physical connector as a standard, then this could open the door for Tesla getting funding under the Biden plan.
- WorldMaker 3y agoThe Biden charging plan was apparently smartly written to just require "charging for multiple supported car companies". NACS qualified just as soon as Aptera and Ford made announcements of supporting NACS. Though yes, the SAE recommendation is entirely cementing that. https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/27/23775208/tesla-nacs-electric-car-charging-standard-sae-chargepoint https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/27/23775208/tesla-nacs-elect...
