Didn’t we have the exact same discourse over bariatric surgery when that was invented? I recall stomach stapling was a huge fad in the obese places of the US, and many stories on the news about how the insurance companies were dragging the feet in covering the then relatively new weight loss method. I think people should eat less, so does the medical community, so why should pharma companies (or bariatric surgeons) have it their way? Shouldn’t medical ethics intervene?

- 2devnull 3y agoSo would a bullet. So would solitary confinement. So would sewing people’s lips together. Lobotomy was widely celebrated procedure, it too would aid weight loss. If the concern is the patient and their well being, maybe find out why they are overeating in the first place?
