It's not that weird if you look at the circumstances of the people who first believed ~P and then moved to P.
As an example -- about 15 years back I knew someone who would pretty much eat any meat under the sun and then some, while mocking and demeaning people on vegetarian diets (me included, at the time). Now I see for the last couple of years or so that they've turned quite strongly vegan, and their Instagram feed/stories is full of anti-animal cruelty stuff -- while mocking, demeaning and shaming people who eat meat.
I guess what I'm trying to say is: if I mocked this person for being a hypocrite, it's really more so because they're being an asshole. And that -- unlike Paul G's second tweet -- says more about them than it does about me, IMHO.
I've no problems with people who change their mind in a thoughtful, nuanced way, while explaining what led them there; and preferably also held their original ~P position in a non-dickish manner.

- bestcoder69 3y agoPro-tip (though could be outdated): if your reply gets a yellow-tick reply then your post gets ranked higher than the blue ones. To make this happen, @-mention an automated customer service bot.
- ipqk 3y agoBetter pro-tip: stop posting on Twitter. It's run by a wannabe fascist.
