The problem with this is that pressure is a scalar quantity. "Pressure along the z axis" does not make sense.
- naasking 3y agoGood point. The device being used is a diamond anvil cell [1], which is a uniaxial device and why I thought they were directly applying pressure along a single axis, but that's not quite how the device works.
