- comboy 3y agoThe article really doesn't explain what is new here (compared to say [1]). Stating that there are 3 phases of matter certainly doesn't help [2] 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photonic_molecule https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photonic_molecule 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_matter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_matter
- vittore 3y agoIs it at all possible to use these photonic molecules as alternative explanation to universe mass instead of dark matter / dark energy?
- gliptic 3y agoNo, this doesn't create previously unknown mass, and if it did it would be a dark matter _candidate_, not alternative.
- TeMPOraL 3y agoAll cool applications, but if I read it correctly, it's not hard light? We ain't getting the real Holodeck any time soon?
- jfengel 3y agoIt's not even the tiniest bit "hard light". The actual journal article is titled "Multidimensional Coherent Spectroscopy of Molecular Polaritons: Langevin Approach". The article is about light induced phases of matter: new behaviors for existing matter. Not matter being generated from light, which is what the headline implies. The title of the article is bad and they should feel bad.
- mavu 3y agoWait, I know this. It was one of the plot lines of Destiny or Destiny 2!
