Are we revealing our age through exploits now? How about "using gopher on a university library terminal to access a site that launched a telnet session so you can check your out-of-state college email over the summer"?
- toast0 3y agoI definitely didn't use the open dialog in Notepad to run other executables at the library.

- rainclouds 3y agoI was a student at a boarding school in the 90s that left WinPopup installed. I quickly found it and taught the whole campus. They tried to remove it but we had backups by that point. Then we found the teacher access internet proxy which had none of the student restrictions and shared it with everyone via WinPopup… I told the staff when I graduated.

- Ntrails 3y agoHeck, in the last 5 years I've used this to create and run bat files on supposedly locked down citrix boxes :D
- scarface_74 3y agoBeen there done that. https://www.nyx.net/ https://www.nyx.net/ Allowed free shell accounts and the college board in GA offered free local dialup access to a Gopher server (Peachnet). I had a terminal script that navigated through the Gopher menu until I could get to Nyx.

- scarface_74 3y agoI find it quite amusing that you are warned about “large websites” they host where the pages are over 25Kb
