This is expected so don't feel too bad about it and move on to the next interview.
Recruiting is one of those things that is beyond broken and no one knows or cares how to fix.
I interviewed for all types of companies, big and small, from Google to Amazon to small startups and local university spin offs.
Overall the experience sucked, before, during and after the interviewing process.
I remember at Amazon, we (candidates) being welcomed by HR staff wearing shorts at a business center in Philadelphia.
Although this may not look like a big deal and in the spirit of a tech company, it really tells you about the judgment some of these people have and those who hire them.
If they don't care about throwing on some minimal business-casual clothes to meet up with grown-up professionals who took the time to flight from all over the country to be there, how will you expect they will give a damn about anything else during the process?
This is an extreme case for sure but I have noticed the same unprofessionalism at all levels, not only dressing codes, anything from being late for the interview, to last second changes poorly communicated to the candidates, interviewers looking at their phones or laptops while you are talking to them to even missing appointments altogether.
I did have some good experiences, one small startup out of MIT labs aced the process so well that I borrowed some of their methods for interviewing myself at my current company.
But in general, the recruiting/hiring process is unprofessional everywhere and I'm just glad I probably will never have to go through that manure again.
