It doesn't really say why I should skip the monitoring though. I subscribe to a for-pay service and I'm also on Google One, so I receive their monitoring service as included. If it weren't for these two services, I wouldn't have found out that my PII was leaked by the recent Luxottica breach. You hear about these breaches all the time, and you wonder if your data is included in them, but that's not always straightforward to query or find out. So I'm thankful that someone will monitor the dark web for me and turn up these data points. Yes, I should always act as if everything is public and everything can be breached. Yes, it's good to be careful and not fall for phishing or SMS scams. But as the saying goes, "forewarned is forearmed."
