While many people are fighting for carbs vs fats the simplest solution is to just eat whole foods and don't overdo carbs and you'll be fine-ish.
Though there are studies showing that high saturated fat intake could make the body less sensitive to insuline.
But do note that many high carb marathon runners get diabetes or are in prediabetes mode because of the insanely high amounts of sugar that they consume, so don't mistake what I said for "fat causes diabetes".
(Look up Timothy Noakes).
- diydsp 3y agoThis truth is horrific. Of course some of it is due to band information, doctors who aren't aggressive enough with nutrition requirements, terrible school lunch programs, bad subsidies, housing prices and workong hours that make it more affordable to buy tons of fast food in the short term rather than meal prep... and so on. Certainly and epic fail with an enormous human cost. Quality of life with diabete is observably diminished. :(
- paddim8 3y agoThere is no way fast food is cheaper than meal prep. Fast food is quite expensive, while you can meal prep for $1-2 per portion
- wizofaus 3y agoDepends what you make and whether you consider all costs, including space/ appliances/utility costs needed for storage/ preparation, time buying/ preparing ingredients etc. There are definitely fast food options that are hard to beat in terms of short-term value for money.
- diydsp 3y agoYou're right and I argue this with my friend. Especially when I discovered that seitan has almost exactly the same macros and cost as chicken breast. I believe part of it is people rationalizing the "satisfaction" they get from the hard thunk of a heavy fast food meal. They mistake taxing on the immune and digestive system for heartiness. But I will admit meal prep requires a bit of coordination and discipline when more than 1 person is involved. One of my failure modes is numerous accumulated plastic containers that need to be washed out. I'm much more content slicing, sauteing, and packing up than washing and emptying. Inevitably some component ages rudely in the fridge and must be dealt with which leads to consternation among partners due to perceived waste. ("Your system stinks, it creates so much wasted food." "Yeah but it's only 37 cents worth of green beans." "Yeah but it stinks up the fridge and someone has to clean it up." ) Oh well, I'm only human. and I'm eating healthier than most, feeling better, and saving money. I'd rather eat my own food than even a nice restaurant most of the time!
