Some open source licenses are fine with AI training, eg. MIT No Attribution https://choosealicense.com/licenses/mit-0/ https://choosealicense.com/licenses/mit-0/ and BSD Zero Clause https://choosealicense.com/licenses/0bsd/ https://choosealicense.com/licenses/0bsd/
My view is that it's good to allow AI training to use your code. This democratises AI models, otherwise AI will be the exclusive preserve of wealthy corporations. So I say, let's license our code under permissive, no attribution licences!
- JoshTriplett 3y agoDevelopers are free to do so, if they want that. But that doesn't make it OK to train an AI on code not under such licenses.
- tlocke 3y agoAgreed, AI training should respect the licence of the code it's being trained on.
- lockhouse 3y agoI default to MIT license for anything open source that I make for 2 reasons. Firstly it’s compatible with pretty much every other license, and secondly it is written in clear, simple, unambiguous plain English.
