I've been remote for over 10 years, far before the pandemic, when the competition for remote positions was extreme. At the time, I decided I wasn't going back to an office again if I could help it. Then the pandemic hit and suddenly everyone is remote and the whole thing flipped upside down. Now it's a battle with return to the office or "flex". Thankfully, I am immune to this. And I have taken a substantial cut in pay in the beginning for it to stay this way. I prefer the freedom and flexibility over more money, but that's just me.
