Forest in Germany
- RGamma 3y agoWas this article written by the forestry industry? Because it totally forgets to mention that much of this forest is artificially modified to be suitable for wood farming (98% according to [1]!). According to [2] only 21% of trees are without tree crown damage, and spruce monocultures have been devastated by bark beetles [3]. I heard a talk about the Ahrtal flooding some months ago, where it was said that water drainage models failed because so much forest is damaged in the area that it could no longer store water. Pretty cringey how the wood industry clings to its narrative of sustainable use when the signs of decay are so easily visible with layman eyes and when their continued meddling with this ecosystem is clearly not going to end well given the overproportional heating in this region [4].
