My comment was not meant to reduce your experience. However, my main concern is that people enter academia due to some idealistic, romantic and preconceived ideas. Science (and academia) isn't above the fray of humanities ugly side. It's done by people for people, its messy inefficient monster. I wish it weren't but that means taking the humanity out of it. These are my crazy ideas. I am probably wrong.
