ChatGPT Told Masayoshi Son His Ideas Are Great. Now He’s Investing Big in AI
- ohgodplsno 3y agoI mean, without ChatGPT telling him anything, he invested in WeWork. Surely it can't be much worse. But then again, Son is the demonstration that wealth is not correlated to abilities.
- anonymouskimmer 3y agoHe's mostly self-made, so I think he has demonstrated ability. I think this is more a demonstration that ability in certain areas does not equal ability in other areas. And that even talented people make errors. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masayoshi_Son#Early_life_and_education https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masayoshi_Son#Early_life_and_e...
- skulk 3y agoThat article states that almost all of his investments have failed except for the 20 mil he hucked into Alibaba.
- anonymouskimmer 3y agoI'm not claiming that his abilities are in investing.
- senttoschool 3y ago>But then again, Son is the demonstration that wealth is not correlated to abilities. He has more ability than the vast majority of people on earth. However, these things also require a lot of luck even if you have ability.

- hamasho 3y agoThis AI bull run will make people like Son and Cathie Wood earn much money. Nothing is wrong with that but I hate those “Why don't you invest in TQQQ are you an idiot!?” people dominate everywhere.
- netsharc 3y agoHa, what magnificent clothes the emperor is wearing!
- anonymouskimmer 3y ago> he had been driven to tears by the sense he was nearing the end of his career without having pursued his dreams. Seriously? He's invested billions of dollars and hasn't even pursued his dreams? > The answer, he concluded, was to chase his old dream of being a technology “architect” who uses the creative side of his brain. With all of the money he had access to, why didn't he go to school to do this instead? Or found a company to do it instead of spending all of his money funding companies so other people could do it? > Often, he said, he wakes up before dawn with an invention in mind. He said he has a team working three shifts that stands by 24 hours a day, ready to respond to his ideas within five minutes. What a waste of human talent.
- EA-3167 3y agoIt really seems like, "Coddled billionaire has a whole team to make him feel special, praise his every utterance, and support his many delusions" has become the new thing for that sort. I wish they still did things like build museums, grand architecture, that sort of thing. Hell, I'll be the last person to compliment Musk, but at least when he burns out on Tesla, Twitter and the rest he'll still have left SpaceX in his wake. I'm not a fan of the Waltons, but at least one of them built that Crystal Bridges museum. We might not need the likes of Versailles, but at least they look good and draw in the tourists. When Son is all said and done he's going to leave nothing of value behind him.
