Why would real meat increase in price (other than normal stuff like inflation)?
- coding123 3y agoAt some point the fake meat is cheaper and more people buy that. This causes real meat to become more expensive because it becomes a luxury item - only wealthy people can pay for the intense farming practices that today every consumer is helping pay for.
- jjtheblunt 3y agoin the US, real meat is (heavily) subsidized by the federal government. https://www.usda.gov/meat https://www.usda.gov/meat
- jjtheblunt 3y agoafterthought, unrelated: does that mean heavy meat eating americans are being bought parts of their meals by vegetarians through federal taxes?
- coding123 3y agoI would assume it works like all other things taxes: people that walk are paying for car infrastructure.
- autoexec 3y agoWhy wouldn't fake meat also be heavily subsidized?
- jjtheblunt 3y agoMaybe it will be. But the entrenched meat industry might lobby against subsidies for their competitors?
