The more we have screened for anxiety disorders, the more people reporting anxiety problems has increased. Why should I not believe these screenings are going to cause widespread mental illness in order to enrich the medical community with a new cohort of insured patients?
Because that’s what I believe is exactly what’s going on, these anxiety screenings don’t work and they cause deadweight loss which is probably making collective mental health worse. Attempts to label more and more of the population as mentally defective so you can “treat” them is not progressive when your treatments fail at the population level.
If you test for something, you will find it. You can by the way use things like SSRIs or CBT or Benzo’s without having to describe yourself as having some sort of mental illness by the way, but our sick system encourages people to be described in the most disparaging ways possible for insurance reasons. You don’t have a “cautious deposition” or a “nervous mind”, no you have the mental sickness of an anxiety disorder. You can’t fix anxiety in this way, you will only make it worse, which is the point.
1 in 6 are already described as “disordered” by anxiety.
