A controller is built to take a lot of abuse from notoriously abusive children.
What controller would you build that is even tougher? It's only a submersible with adults in it anyway. It shouldn't need rough handling and a submersible doesn't move like a submarine.
The controller isn't at fault here for the failed expedition.
- BugsJustFindMe 3y ago100% agreed. I have a background in robotic vehicles, and this whole "omg game controller!" story running around the web right now is complete barrel-scraping garbage faux journalism. > one of its interior lights was bought from the recreational-vehicle company CamperWorld OH NO! THEY DIDN'T CUSTOM FABRICATE THEIR OWN LIGHTBULBS BY HAND IN A CAVE OUT OF MOSS AND BEETLE LARVAE! I think I'm just going to flag the ones that I see. The hand-wringing over COTS parts is absolutely absurd.
- isk517 3y agoYeah, I have a wired XBox 360 controller that will be old enough to vote in a few months. That things has out lasted and been used far more than the controls of many more expensive and professional products I have encountered over the years. I'm all for making OceanGate take responsibility for any actual negligence but this story just reeks of trying to shock people just by showing them how the sausage is made.
