Hybrids are great. There are downsides: extra weight of a gas engine, more mechanical complexity, and weird maintenance, especially if its an gas engine your not using very often. The person I know who has one went a couple months without using much gas. Does gas go bad?

That's a great point to raise, because yes, gas does go bad. Without added stabilizer, it lasts 3-6 months.

It does, but smart cars can use pretty simple math to work out how old your gas is and burn gas as needed to keep the age of your gas low enough.
