In fact, it lowers you on their level, only you are doing same cruelty on human beings, which we society deem much worse than animal cruelty, ie see how animals in slaughter houses are treated. Almost nobody gives nanofraction of a fuck about that when shopping for meat. Or you can smart up, try to understand source of it, and potentially try treating it, or weeding it out in society proactively. Or you can probably skip that point, since its most probably kids being raised in messed up households, lacking basic care, missing father/mother figures in many ways, being exposed to / subject to violence etc. But yes if you want quick pat on the back, quickly turn away and the illusion of actually doing something, your approach may work for you, short term, maybe.

  ... so you become evil. Then we get to the second part of your statement. This is how many many veterans not only in US end up, exactly for those reasons, 'evil' is a cancer and not too picky. Knee-jerk emotional reactions to deep societal issues never ever solved any serious problems long term. I know its easy to say when not talking about my kids, but above would still be valid.

    Son, evil can't be tamed, rationalised, or ignored. If you are ever unfortunate enough to meet true evil in your life, you will instantly know what needs to be done about it.
