Samsung's already sidestepped the 90W regulation for the EU by shipping 8K displays this year by dimming the display in factory settings (you can turn this setting off)
There's also nothing physically stopping engineers from designing more efficient 8K displays that are sub 90W (in fairness they generally are more than double that atm, though)
- ksec 3y agoExcept for Cost. Even before EU regulation, 8K has been an hot topic between Panel Vendors and TV brands mainly pushed by Japan. And market were showing signs that 8K may be just like 3D TV. EU regulation were more like the nail in the coffin. Forcing panel marker to focus on other aspect rather than pixel density. Which is something much harder and costly to achieve with self emission panel technology.
