Three thousand years of river channel engineering in the Nile Valley
- DrDroop 3y agoIt does not mention the canal of the pharaohs, the predecessor of the Suez Canal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_of_the_Pharaohs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_of_the_Pharaohs
- dr_dshiv 3y agoI know there was a lot of trade between India and Egypt in Hellenistic and Roman times; but I don’t know whether this canal was involved. Curious!
- Archelaos 3y agoIt does not, because it limits its scope to the area between the 1st Cataract and the 4th Cataract. The Canal of the Pharaos is about 700 km north of the 1st Cataract (which is at Aswan), or even further away when following the course of the Nile.
- snthpy 3y agoThat's incredible! How much archeological evidence of it remains today because I didn't see any mention of that on the Wikipedia page?
- vondur 3y agoThe Ptolemiec Kings did this heavily and reclaimed lands in the Fayum area in order to dispense it to the native Macedonian soldiers to pay them.
