this is basically exactly what it does. It looks through the folder (i.e. year/month/date.md) and try to find whether today's diary exist. If it does exist it just opens it, otherwise it creates it. The script actually accept other terminal editors if you edit a single line in the package. I imagine it will be easy to change to use sublime as well.
