It can be configured to notify(default), check manually or update automatically. I prefer the default. I only used it with winget, MS Store and Chocolately. In my experience however, it had some issues (I believe they are actually due to winget) with some packages like Postgresql. Overall I am happy with it and I prefer getting gui notifications for updates instead of manually running winget.
