Lets write the sauce with vanilla CSS

- codetrotter 3y agoThat’s nice and all. Would like to see the article expand more on the part about frameworks for the pasta and vanilla CSS for the sauce.
- fjallakall 3y agoGood point, i'll write that next time :)
- alwillis 3y agoCSS frameworks became a thing because CSS lacked a built-in way to handle two-dimensional layout (also known as a grid), so we used frameworks to handle the misuse of floats, layout: table (a.k.a. CSS tables) and Flexbox, to deal with page layouts. CSS Grid for two dimensional layout enables us to make far more sophisticated layouts than frameworks every allowed with much less code. Yes, there's a lot to Grid and Flexbox (for one dimensional layout), but even if you get 50% of it initially, you'll be far ahead of most developers who can only use Bootstrap and the like. Many developers didn't learn CSS correctly in many ways; unfortunately they'll be writing crummy CSS for as long as someone allows them to. But for those willing and able to go back to first principles, Every Layout [1] is a great resource; so are Jen Simmon's talks on Intrinsic Design [2].
