Ask HN: Why would anyone work so hard to fake that he is a VC?
Why would anyone work so hard to fake things? Like creating a LinkedIn that says his company is based off a rich country and truly believe that founders are stupid and won't find out by simply searching available (on the internet) information?
He is not the only one! I found out that there are several folks from different nationalities do this! And the bizarre thing is that this is not a simple lie. No, they work extraordinary hard to fake their website, degrees, affiliation and so on.
Why do they do this?
- verdverm 3y agoTo scam someone most likely
- madmax_2024 3y agoObviously, it's a scam. I'm trying to understand what will they gain from scamming founders.
- verdverm 3y agomoney, what else?
- Nextgrid 3y agoTo get insider information about a company under the pretext of due diligence/etc for a potential investment round.
- madmax_2024 3y agoThat's based on the assumption that this VC/fund has money, and that's what's throwing me off here. The VC/fund I'm referring to doesn't have money. What other possible reasons for someone to do this? Get hired by another legitimate VC, and work as a spy for them? Did you ever hear about a VC, who would stoop so low to hire these folks?
