Observation bias, but I first noticed this word popping up in tech talks from Microsoft first.
- insanitybit 3y agoHow odd that a language stackexchange wouldn't just immediately quote Fowler's, which has a whole section on such words, as I recall.
- tveita 3y agoThere's viewings, showings, hearings, shootings, cuttings, smearings, belongings, holdings... It's not like the pattern doesn't exist even if it doesn't hold for all verbs.
- DrBazza 3y agoThe English language is great for inconsistencies like that, and the acceptance of, for better or worse, neologisms.
