I knew better than to trust Google, and yet... I switched everything to Google Domains because the UI was very clean and the attempted upsells were minimal.
I had moved from GoDaddy to Name.com years prior for similar reasons but Name burned my good will.
Is there a service that replaces Google Domains in simplicity and not pushing add-ons?
- mastry 3y agoTry hover.com. They have never sent me spam and upsell attempts are very minimal during purchase (mostly for their email service, I think).
- iudqnolq 3y agoI use porkbun.com. Their site is simple. When you click the "Checkout" button you're taken to a confirmation page with a "Continue to Billing" button. There are discreet links you can click to add email/web hosting, but no interstitials to click through. Edit: fixed autocorrect of domain name
- LordShredda 3y ago...what?
- ashkulz 3y agoI guess you meant to say porkbun?
- SethKinast 3y ago... Freudian slip?
- whateveracct 3y agoautocorrect is a helluva drug
- schlauerfox 3y agoCloudflare is minimal. There are arguments to be made about their centralized control of much of the internet infra, but it's minimal and low cost.
- nuker 3y ago> Is there a service that replaces Google Domains in simplicity and not pushing add-ons? AWS
- philistine 3y agoThis is the correct answer, except for simplicity. Jeez Louise is AWS convoluted.
- nuker 3y agoActually no, just buying and holding a domain is dead simple. Its what you do next is convoluted af :)
- philistine 3y agoSorry but no. Navigating TO the registrar is convoluted, and the way billing is written and sent to you is hella mad. Who has any idea what Route 53 is supposed to mean!
- SkyPuncher 3y agoWe put a few of our accessory domains on Google Domains because it was super accessible. Really annoying.
