This is totally irrelevant to HN and is one of the issues on the Internet most likely to start a flame war. Flagged. georgecmu you appear to have been around HN a good while, which surprises me as it's more than long enough to know this is totally inappropriate. Go to reddit.com/r/worldnews or one of the other relevant subreddits if you want to discuss this issue.
- babbling 15y agoExcept that the Israeli Palestinian conflict is interesting to a lot of people and Hacker News tends to have more civilized discussions than some other places
- rdtsc 15y agoIt deals with renewable energy ( solar panels ) and a technology that can potentially revolutionize life in areas that are still stuck with primitive farming technologies. There is even a start-up opportunity there or a non-for-profit start-up opportunity. So I don't think the adjective totally completely applies.
- Nate75Sanders 15y agodoesn't change what you're saying, but "totally" is an adverb
- Estragon 15y agoIt surprises me that people are complaining this is irrelevant to HN. It fits well with the PG/HN narrative of technology decentralizing political power -- Israel is suppressing this technology because it doesn't want to give up its control of the electricity supply.
- ubershmekel 15y agoThis is a political piece on a political issue. Solar/wind energy isn't new or hacker newsy more than building a house is. I'd love to further express my opinion on the subject, this just isn't the place for it. No matter how hard you spin it.
- rnrlrn 15y ago"Israel is suppressing this technology..." that statement exactly shows the problem with this post. this is a complex political problem that has nothing to do with the technology. in fact Israel has made huge investments in solar technology. you don't have to agree with Israeli politics. as an Israeli,I rarely do either, but this post is one in a long list of demonizing and biased posts that just make the situation worse for us left wing Israelis who genuinely want a solution
- eyko 15y ago> this is a complex political problem that has nothing to do with the technology. May be complex to you, but to (most of) the rest of us it is actually quite simple to understand.
- ocdprogrammer 15y agoIt seems Israel is oppressing it's own people, somehow like Syria. I wonder if the democratic armies of the west could overthrow the regime in Israel right after they finish with the Syrian one. The people in Palestine are killed while protesting for a long time now but nobody seemed to care. I guess this is a good opportunity to bring justice to the region. (BTW, there are some rumors that Israel builds some illegal atomic bombs too, one reason more)
- mthreat 15y agoI found it at least as relevant as articles on how to take better naps, which get plenty of upvotes.
- gnosis 15y agoFrom the HN Guidelines[1]: "Please don't submit comments complaining that a submission is inappropriate for the site. If you think something is spam or offtopic, flag it by going to its page and clicking on the "flag" link. (Not all users will see this; there is a karma threshold.) If you flag something, please don't also comment that you did." [1] - http://ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html http://ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- davidw 15y agoWithout standing up and saying "no", there is no communication to new users of the do's and don'ts of the site, which including overtly political articles like this. Put another way, the number of people interested in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and its importance in world events, far exceeds the number of people, and import, of "hacker news", so were the site to open its gates completely, articles like this would completely overwhelm what we came here for.

- randomobserver 15y agoWhat's inappropriate is your attempt to bury human rights abuses by trying to have a post like this removed.
