> The breakthrough reveals that Enceladus is stocked with all right materials to support life as we know it, and hints that phosphorus may be present in other possible ocean worlds far from Earth, such as Neptune’s moon Triton or the dwarf planet Pluto. At this point, nobody knows if any of these places are actually inhabited by aliens, but the new results bolster the evidence that habitable conditions may be common in the solar system, and possibly beyond it.
Cool findings. Calling life on a neighbouring planet "aliens" sounds weird to me. I suppose it's correct but I've always thought of "aliens" as life outside of our solar system.
- netsharc 3y agoThe US government uses the term "alien" for foreigners too. Reminds me of a story from the Rooster Teeth podcast, Gus the host grew up in a border town and his dad/step dad was a game ranger, one time his neighbor was playing at his house and they could hear on his dad's radio someone radioing in saying he's spotted some illegal aliens. And the neighbor had a wide-eyed look on his face and said "Aliens are real?!".
