Feds tell automakers not to comply with Mass. “right to repair” law
- jqpabc123 3y agosimply disabling telematics and connected services Can we get this as the default in all states? Auto manufacturers tracking, collecting and potentially selling your driving history and habits is a violation of privacy.
- flangola7 3y agoWhat is the threat here? Telemetry is just data collection. The pedals and steering column are physical mechanisms not networked APIs. This isn't Hollywood, you can't remotely hack into a car and steer it into oncoming traffic.
- nebulousthree 3y agoUnfortunately this is an extremely naive take. 2015: https://www.wired.com/2015/07/hackers-remotely-kill-jeep-highway/ https://www.wired.com/2015/07/hackers-remotely-kill-jeep-hig...
- LinuxBender 3y agoI still think they went about that wrong. In my opinion they should have picked up the Chief of the Highway Patrol and the Department of Transportation commissioner and then taken them for a "joy ride" off road and included dashboard mounted barf bags. I think that would have warranted an immediate recall and a closer watch of all future drive-by-wire vehicles.
