  The standard qwerty is offset by row, and top heavy (less keys in the lower rows), which probably accounts for most of this. While these custom alphabet ones are generally neat rectangular grids. This also lets them wrap around like pacman. QWERTY does work well with swipe though, words like cab or bad or mom or non are split up.
