The Associationist Mindset
- kgwxd 3y agoIt's the 2 party system that strengthens these "irrational" associations. Everyone is trying to convince everyone else to vote for the things they care about most but one of the parties has laid claim to it, the other actively works against it, and neither side has all the "rational" stuff. This isn't a both-sides argument though, one side has far more blatant bigotry, lies, and corruption. That's why these associations aren't irrational, they're based on prior observations. The reason some people can say not-inherently-racist things and be called a racist while someone else can say the exact same thing and get laughs from the same crowd is because it's already somehow know how the speaker votes. I don't know how Trader Joe votes so I'm not sure how to judge their not-inherently-racist play on words but it's close enough to the line that it's going to make me wonder, unless the items were sitting next to a big stack of Bud Light. The author might want to think about how they throw the word "wokester" around exactly the same way the wokesters throw "racist" around.
- HKH2 3y agoThinking by consensus requires guilt by association. Who needs genuine thought? History has ended and we have a mandate to purge the heretics.
- rektide 3y agoLong read to end with an anti-wokeness rant. I'm low key obsessed with human's ability to associate, think it makes us so special. Would love some better blogging on the topic.
- HKH2 3y agoHow is association special for humans?
