Why don’t they just introduce Reddit Premium, for say $5/mo, which is ad-free and allows 3rd party clients.
- menus 3y agoThey do not want 3rd party clients to exist which is why they are not doing what would logically make sense: limiting it to Premium.

- TulliusCicero 3y agoThat would probably kill third party clients because their userbase would be too small.
- jorams 3y agoReddit Premium exists for $5.99/month, but there's no mention of it for the API changes.
- leovander 3y agoUh, they already offer that. https://www.reddit.com/premium https://www.reddit.com/premium
- ubercore 3y agoThere's nothing about third party client access there. That's the important part.
- Zren 3y agoThen you can get an LLM company to easily scrape Reddit for $5 instead of $100000. The main reason for this change is to monetize the usage, not the access.
