Instead of developing web APIs from scratch, if there is an API builder available, it would be good enough. I know that sometimes it doesn't provide the flexibility you desire, but it does enable faster development and modifications. Actually, I agree with you that when writing code, if we take a slower approach initially with good design, refactoring, and testing, it will be beneficial in the long run
