POST TL;DR: CSS Day 2023 highlighted the increasing complexity and breadth of CSS, with more units and modules than ever before. While the growth presents opportunities for specialization, there's a concern that CSS and open standards are being controlled by a narrowing group of implementers, particularly Google. Despite this, CSS and HTML continue to evolve, making web development more accessible and the web more functional. The web's progress has been influenced by both European collaboration and American innovation, leading to its constant evolution. The conference underscored the need for the CSS community to grow and thrive to counterbalance the dominance of Silicon Valley giants and ensure user-centric development.
