The Perilous Life of the Solitary Pangolin
- mistersquid 3y agoFrom "The Pangolin" (1936) by Marianne Moore Another armored animal——scale lapping scale with spruce-cone regularity until they form the uninterrupted central tail-row! This near artichoke with head and legs and grit-equipped gizzard, the night miniature artist engineer is, yes, Leonardo da Vinci's replica—— impressive animal and toiler of whom we seldom hear. https://xroads.virginia.edu/~MA05/dulis/poetry/Moore/moore2.html https://xroads.virginia.edu/~MA05/dulis/poetry/Moore/moore2....
- hilbert42 3y ago"Often, when poachers are interested only in the scales, they drop the curled-up pangolins into pots of water and boil them alive to make the scales easier to pluck." It's times like this I feel ashamed to be a part of the human race.
- pietro72ohboy 3y agoAmen. I feel disgusted to be a part of a species that despite its extraordinary intelligence lacks basic empathy for other creatures.
- hilbert42 3y agoTragically, empathy's always been in short supply. One only has to look at news from Ukraine to see perpetrators don't give a shit for the suffering of their victims. It's so damn depressing.
