The headline leaves out a lot of details that are specified in the article:
- The guy works as a researcher for a state university, is paid $800k a year (how is this not a gross waste of taxpayer money!?)
- He sues the NYT and some other guy for libel / defamation
- The lawyer charges him over $1 million for the suits (how is a libel / defamation lawsuit that expensive!?)
- He doesn't pay his lawyers
- Judge orders his property to be seized, he files a motion saying "please don't take my super expensive artwork"..The lawyer that filed that motion would have to be dumb as rocks not to ask for payment up front, seeing how his client got into his current legal situation by not paying two other sets of lawyers
