What sentence might Trump get, if found guilty?
- activiation 3y agoWhat sentence did he get last time they tried that?
- LinuxBender 3y agoWhat sentence might Trump get, if found guilty? I am not a lawyer but I would guess none? As a former president he is allocated secret service for life. That may not be delegated to the prison system or at least that is my understanding. More likely and feasible would be heavy fines I think. Multiple presidents have committed felonies and AFAIK none have served a day in prison but the history buffs here could probably find something that I did not.
- maximinus_thrax 3y ago> As a former president he is allocated secret service for life He has protection for life. The protection can also be extended to a prison wing. One would wager that it would actually be cheaper (less travel). There is no precedent in the USA but lots of heads of states have been imprisoned in Europe and they've managed to make it work. Nobody is (or should be) above the law. Having a 4-year stint as a president is not a get out of jail free card for the rest of your life.
- LinuxBender 3y agoNobody is (or should be) above the law. I agree. I was just pointing out that AFAIK this would be the first time a former president in the US has actually served time for their crimes. He surrendered today [1] so I guess we will see what comes of it. [Update] He has been released without bond.
