VC funding is primary reason that reddit reached the current situation. Another VC funded alternative will follow the same death spiral.
Link aggregators/social networks cannot generate VC expected returns without dying in the process.
This death cycle of social networks has repeated itself in silicon valley for decades.
At this point doing VC investment into social networks is like a game of hot potato. Who gets to exit first before the social network self destructs
- lb4r 3y agoTo be honest, I am not all too familiar with all the pitfalls of VC funding, so I don't feel confident in either agreeing nor disagreeing with you. Either way, there are other ways to both raise and make money.
- snisarenko 3y agoI agree. I think the only successful alternative has to be a non-profit. Decentralized solutions don't scale.
- lb4r 3y agoAlthough I actually (and REALLY) hope you are right, I think a purely non-profit alternative would be doomed to fail. And my argument for this is pretty simple: How often do non-profits out-compete for-profits? Sometimes, maybe, but rarely.
