Hm interesting. That's kind of you. Would love to hear from other people as well.
I just made a Chrome extension that lets you delete all your posts and comments: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bulk-delete-reddit-posts/nbfdoajmaaohkohdnbpjakamhcaaleco?hl=en&authuser=0 https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bulk-delete-reddit...
Would love to get any feedback — I'm still working on it.
- pcthrowaway 3y agoMy 2 cents: it'd be really good if it lets you save all the posts to an archive before deleting them. Maybe also save some context about those posts No way I'd personally pay for increased deletions though, that seems a bit silly. Good luck though
- theossuary 3y agoAgreed, I'm waiting for a GDPR request to go through before deleting my content. For anyone else looking to export before deleting - https://www.reddit.com/settings/data-request https://www.reddit.com/settings/data-request
- pcthrowaway 3y agoIf I have time this weekend, I want to build a tool that allows users to edit all their historic posts to display a message saying they've temporarily removed all posts from reddit until they institute reasonable API terms. Ideally it'll save all the content from all the posts into a sqlite database or something, and then can be run again to restore all the content. I don't like the idea of removing so much valuable content from the internet, but I also think Reddit is acting irresponsibly as a steward, and needs to be reminded that the content creators (aka users) are the reason their platform has the value it does in the first place.
- anadem 3y agoI think that already exists, as the Power Delete Suite https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite eta: that doesn't have the restore function iirc
- anadem 3y ago> Would love to hear from other people Well I'm another who's left Reddit today, though I used RiF (aka Reddit is Fun) not Apollo. I also used to use RedReader, which afaik is not being asked to pay fees as it's a lower-volume client and Reddit wants to leave some access for visually impaired people, but despite twelve+ years of enjoying/wasting time on Reddit enough's enough and I'm gone
- dang 3y agoYou posted 10 copies of your link in the last several hours. That's excessive, and users are complaining to us that you're spamming. I realize there have been a zillion reddit threads, but please stop. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36296299 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36296299 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295536 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295536 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295399 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295399 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295347 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295347 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295092 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295092 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295065 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295065 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295056 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36295056 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36294985 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36294985 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36294908 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36294908 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36294898 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36294898
- Glench 3y agoHey dang, I appreciate the feedback about this. Is it appropriate for me to post this in some of the relevant threads today? I don't want to spam, but it does seem relevant.
- dang 3y agoI suppose so, as long as you only do it in particularly relevant places, don't do it in every related thread, and it's a minority of what you're posting. HN readers are vigilant about this kind of thing and tend to be way less permissive than we are, btw, so I would err on the side of unspamminess.
