- klooney 3y agoIs Lemmy a part of the /r/chapotraphouse diaspora? That explosion seemed like it seeded tiny tankie reddit clones all over the place.
- twic 3y agoSomewhat [1]: > What is the story behind the creation of Lemmy? What role do you want it to serve for people online / why did you make it? > [...] Despite the conservative talking point that big tech is dominated by “leftist propaganda”, it is liberal, and pro-US, not left (leftism referring to the broad category of anti-capitalism). Reddit has banned its share of leftist users and communities, and the reddit admins via announcement posts repeatedly villify the US’s primary foreign-policy enemies as having “bot campaigns”, and “manipulating reddit”, yet the default reddit communities (/r/news, /r/pics, etc), who share a small number of moderators, push a line consistent with US foreign-policy interests. [...] > Are you familiar with the group running Chapo Chat at all, specifically? > Yes, we communicate with some of their developers regularly, both in tech-oriented, and admin-oriented chats. A few of their developers have made great contributions to Lemmy’s code, and we’ve been happy to work with them. [1] https://lemmy.eus/post/5460 https://lemmy.eus/post/5460
- twic 3y agoTo clarify, not even the devs' positions on Stalin, but: > Meanwhile, another [post] suggests celebrating Stalin's birthday as he was such a great guy. > Over the past few days I have tried to engage with Lemmy about these posts in private, as I was sure it must be a misunderstanding. > However, Lemmy said that "none of the posts you linked are against our rules", and refused to even discuss the actual issues because "this format is not conducive to political disagreements". I personally am not a great fan of Stalin, and am more likely to celebrate his death than his birthday, but the idea that this constitutes a "human rights, oppression" problem, or any sort of problem at all, is insane.
