Replacing a gas hot water heater is the same in a $1M home as it is in a $50k one: “one less mouth to feed” and further reduction in the economies of scale demand size that drives cheap hydrocarbons.
>but someone making $200k can afford it!
Yeah but they won’t, “my hot water heater works fine and I can afford the gas bill, why change?”
Or the heat pump one for example. A below median earner getting $8k towards a $15k system does nothing. That extra $7k might as well be $700k to them.
Someone making $200k is way more likely to see that incentive and act on it, getting a crappy 14 Seer AC/gas heat unit out of circulation faster.
Once again, leftist environmentalists sabotage themselves while right wing environmentalists who actually want to achieve goals this century stare on in disbelief.

- beej71 3y agoIf a person making $200k had no reason to change their existing system, why would $7k matter to them?
- newZWhoDis 3y agoPeople are irrational, they won’t “waste” $15k, but will spend $8k to “save” $7k.
