Currently a dev at non-tech, advice for breaking into tech in this climate?
2-3 YOE as a fullstack developer at a non-tech company (not banking, bit of a niche). I've been doing some Leetcode here and there since before big the companies started laying off but now I'm having no success on even getting a recruiter screen when sending applications. Sample size is only about 30-40 applications but a good portion of these are paying less than my current TC and I only applied to get some more experience interviewing.
My primary goal is to get a role at a tech (bank would be good too), but should I bother grinding Leetcode aggressively if I have a 0% conversion rate? Or try to work on personal project outside of work to stand out?
I don't think the issue is my resume either--I've gathered a lot of feedback on it and have improved it as much as possible (given the low complexities of work at my current company).
Education (if relevant) is tier 2 school, majored in some qualitative degree, minored in CS.
- skadamat 3y agoAre you trying to interview at companies through the front door (applying on their job board) or through the side door (trying to get a referral)? Practical work experience, even outside of tech, usually is enough to get an interview but it's a tough job market and doing approach #1 can be challenging in this job market unfortunately.
