What Is Your Dangerous Idea? (2006)

I thought this was interesting, because I saw an article in the NYT today with the subhead: > The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress is beloved in Hollywood. In supporting her husband’s campaign, is she normalizing his often dangerous ideas? It also made me think of this Chesterton quote: "Ideas are dangerous, but the man to whom they are least dangerous is the man of ideas. He is acquainted with ideas, and moves among them like a lion-tamer. Ideas are dangerous, but the man to whom they are most dangerous is the man of no ideas. The man of no ideas will find the first idea fly to his head like wine to the head of a teetotaller." I've noticed more and more this idea that ideas can somehow be dangerous, which strikes me as a rather dangerous idea. It's pretty-commonly held around parts like here that ideas are useless sans execution. Do you think ideas can be dangerous? To me, OP makes a lot of sense in that the only dangerous idea is that ideas can be dangerous.

The most dangerous idea of our age (aka, the greatest conspiracy) is that we are not alone in our own minds. A secret occult power, and a secret occult society, and a secret war upon us all is American Thought Control. Imperceptible and incomprehensible in the minds of ordinary Man; indistinguishable from God in the minds of the thought controlled Americans, is a disembodied abomination of Power that spreads corruption and perversion throughout the world. No greater evil exists among humanity, than thought controlled Americans, and American Thought Control. Allah in the minds of Muslims, Yahweh in the minds of the Jewish, Jesus among the Christians, spirit, or just plain synchronicity among the agnostic, atheists, and any other by virtue of Power. These spread race hate, pedophelia, rape (hepatitis and aids are weapons of biological warfare upon you and your communities), and extortion. You will not hear if this on Fox News or CNN, not in the New York Times, or the Washington Post, yet this trend will be undeniable to those who undeceive. A secret war is being waged upon us, and the enemy of Truth, Law, and Free World is Thought Controlled America.

There's a great book with that very phrase in its title: Darwin's Dangerous Idea. I actually got to speak to the author, Daniel Dennett! I told him it was one of the few books where, when I got to the end, I wanted to immediately read it again. He said, "I'm not sure if that's a good thing."
