From what I understand, there are quite a lot of cosmic rays coming to Earth at 10 TeV and even much higher, so the black hole thing never made any sense to me. Shouldn't cosmic rays have already created an earth-destroying blackhole, if such a thing were possible? Apparently the whole controversy was started by the Scientific American magazine publishing the letters of some crank botanist. Pop science journalism is shameless.
