- not_your_vase 3y agoI bought my old (back then new) iPad 4 with my money, and despite having a great hardware, its software rendered it e-waste also years ago, without any actual reason beside "buy a new one". Is it better?
- garbagecoder 3y agoThat's not what the post was about. It was about him wanting to run Linux. Which I don't know if he can do, but I do know you can jailbreak those. Anyway, I think your reaction is the one he was looking for which is "hurr durr $my_os good $your_os bad"
- not_your_vase 3y agoI partially disagree. If Apple wouldn't be so adamant about dropping all support for old iOS versions (especially including forbidding accessing historical AppStore content), this would be a non-issue, based on the first picture.
- richardjam73 3y agoMy first gen ipad still works and the apps on it mostly work.

- richardjam73 3y agoIt is unable due to hardware limitations. Being able to run Linux won't help. It only has 256MB of RAM and a very slow processor.
- not_your_vase 3y agoI don't know why everyone is fixated on running Linux on iPad, what's the problem with the idea of not trashing completely iOS? Opening iPad's bootloader would only result in a bunch of buggy distros with custom 6 years old kernels, which only support 70% of the hw, while having 10% of the original battery life. On a different note, my e-waste iPad 4 has 1GB of RAM, it still can't open about 50% of the websites anymore, and I can't install a calculator on it anymore - while some capabilities are restricted by hw, most of the restrictions are from sw...
